Preuve : théorème de comparaison intégrale/série

Pour tout entier $k\geqslant\lfloor a\rfloor+1$, on a: $$\ds\forall t\in[k,k+1],\; f(k+1)\leqslant f(t)\leqslant f(k)$$ $$\ds\int_{k}^{k+1}{f(k+1)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant\int_{k}^{k+1}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant\int_{k}^{k+1}{f(k)\mathrm{d} t}$$ $$\ds f(k+1)\leqslant\int_{k}^{k+1}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant f(k)$$ Ainsi, pour tout entier $n\geqslant\lfloor a\rfloor+1$, on a: $$\ds\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{n}{f(k+1)}\leqslant\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{n}{\int_{k}^{k+1}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}}\leqslant\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{n}{f(k)}$$ $$\ds\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+2}^{n+1}{f(k)}\leqslant\int_{\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{n+1}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{n}{f(k)}$$ Alors, pour tout réel $x\geqslant a+1$, on a: $$\ds\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+2}^{\lfloor x\rfloor+1}{f(k)}\leqslant\int_{\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{\lfloor x\rfloor+1}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{\lfloor x\rfloor}{f(k)}$$

  • Supposons que l'intégrale converge. Alors, par positivité de $f$, la première inégalité prouve que: $$\ds\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+2}^{\lfloor x\rfloor+1}{f(k)}\leqslant\int_{\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{\lfloor x\rfloor+1}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant\int_{a}^{x+1}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant\int_{a}^{+\infty}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}$$ donc la série (à termes positifs) $\ds\sum_{n\geqslant\lfloor a\rfloor+2}{f(n)}$ converge ce qui prouve la convergence de $\ds\sum_{n\geqslant a}{f(n)}$.
  • Supposons que la série converge. Alors, par positivité de $f$, la seconde inégalité prouve que: $$\ds\int_{\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{x}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant\int_{\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{\lfloor x\rfloor+1}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}\leqslant\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{\lfloor x\rfloor}{f(k)}\leqslant\sum_{k=\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{+\infty}{f(k)}$$ donc, par croissance et majoration de la fonction $\ds x\mapsto\int_{\lfloor a\rfloor+1}^{x}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}$, on établit la convergence en $+\infty$ de l'intégrale. Par relation de Chasles, on a alors la convergence de $\ds\int_{a}^{+\infty}{f(t)\mathrm{d} t}$.
